What is 2-1-1?
2-1-1 is a non-emergency phone number that connects our community with resources, services and volunteer opportunities. It is free, confidential and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. 2-1-1 telephone specialists are trained to answer questions, listen to callers' needs and connect callers with accurate referrals. Referrals are based on a continuously updated database with more than 200 health and human service programs and non-profits in Tulare County.
In July 2000, the Federal Communications Commission assigned the 2-1-1 dialing code to connect community members across the nation with access to local/regional information and referral services. United Way of Tulare County started its 2-1-1 system in March 2010. In its first year, more than 10,000 people used the service to find answers and solutions. We hope to continue connecting community members with the services they need.
Benefits of 2-1-1
Inclusive - It not only helps community members in need, but also the service organizations,
nonprofits and local government agencies that provide those services.
Accurate - It's an up-to-date database and referral system for existing services.
Efficient - It provides streamlined access to community resources.
Philanthropic - It connects volunteers and donors with community organizations that need their help.
Needs assessment - Based on anonymous caller request statistics, it's a social barometer of our community's needs, helping policymakers determine priorities for services.
