On January 15, 2026, community leaders and service providers from Kings and Tulare Counties gathered virtually for the first Smart Referral Network (SRN) Alliance Meeting of the year. The meeting marked a welcoming return to collaboration, focusing on new leadership, vital community resources, and system enhancements designed to better serve our neighbors.
Kings County SRN Update
Maria Valdez, the new SRN Coordinator for Kings United Way, formally introduced herself to the alliance. Coming from a background with 211, Maria brings a wealth of experience to the role. She shared that the Kings County SRN has been fully launched since October 31 of last year and is actively facilitating connections across the network.
Tulare County SRN Update
Fedieson Landicho, SRN Coordinator for United Way of Tulare County, provided insights into Tulare’s progress. Tulare County is currently in a "soft launch" phase, strategically onboarding organizations that handle high-volume needs such as:
Housing
Utilties
Food security
Fedieson emphasized that while the approach is strategic, the network remains open to all interested Tulare County agencies.
Spotlight on Community Partners
Central California Food Bank Joanna, Donor Engagement Manager, delivered a powerful overview of the Central California Food Bank, the largest hunger relief organization in the Central Valley. Serving over 320,000 neighbors monthly across five counties, the organization operates like a "vault," distributing food through partners like schools and churches.
Key highlights included:
Groceries to Go: A drive-up service for dignity-focused food access.
Backpack Program: Providing weekend meals for students who rely on school lunches.
Protein Repack Room: An exciting upcoming expansion that will allow bulk meat donations to be repackaged into household-sized portions.
My Diabetes Tutor Hillary Perez-Godfrey, Senior Director of Growth and Network Strategy, introduced My Diabetes Tutor, a 100% virtual, accredited diabetes education program founded by Dr. Prem Sahasranam. Designed to bridge the gap in rural healthcare, the program offers:
Telehealth Accessibility: Removing geographic barriers with extended hours (8 AM – 8 PM).
Multilingual Support: Providers fluent in Spanish, Tagalog, Vietnamese and more.
Comprehensive Care: Including medical nutrition therapy and an upcoming pediatric program.
Hillary highlighted that their services are insurance-based and designed to complement, not replace, a patient's existing healthcare team.
Feature Highlight: Referral Status Workflow
Maria Valdez walked the alliance through the specific definitions of SRN referral statuses to ensure data accuracy and seamless care.
Waiting: The referral has been sent and is awaiting action.
Enrolled: The client has been accepted, with specific start and end dates tracked.
Protected: A "blurred file" status for sensitive cases (e.g., domestic violence), ensuring privacy while still enabling care.
Understanding these statuses helps agencies maintain a "clean" loop of communication, ensuring no client falls through the cracks.
Looking Ahead
The meeting concluded with a look toward future collaborations. The next Kings/Tulare SRN Alliance Meeting is scheduled for February 19 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
Partners are encouraged to reach out if they are interested in being a "Spotlight of Service" presenter. Together, we are refining the way our region connects, supports, and uplifts every community member.
